About Our Farm

J.A.G. Arabians is a private, family and amateur owned and run farm. It has been operating since 1982 under the ownership and management of Kathy and Jimmy. At this time, the farm was located in Houston, Texas. In 1987, J.A.G. Arabians relocated to Alpharetta, Georgia bringing with them four horses.

J.A.G. Arabians stood the athletic, pure Polish Arabian stallion, Elated MSF (until he was gelded). Elated was shown dressage (up to 2nd level), western pleasure, country english pleasure, hunters, western trail, competitive trail riding, sport horse under saddle, sport horse in hand, combined training, jumpers, and participated and competed in Atlanta Pony Club with Kathy's daughter, Jessica.  The Welsh Pony stallion, Glyncadno Fairy King also stood at stud at the farm until he was sold to Brownwood Farm. King was awarded the 1995 Fourth Place High Score Award South East Region for Section B Stallions with Kathy Gilker.

On December 16, 1999, Kathy and Jimmy and their twin daughters moved to Mountain Road.

Kathy has continued to ride, train and show her personal horses in dressage, hunters, and combined training along with enjoying trail rides, hunter paces and cross country schooling with her Arabians and Half-Arabians, with the help of her twin daughters, Megan Gilker Thomas and Jessica Gilker Ho, and support of her husband, James. J.A.G. stands for James A. Gilker, Kathy's husband since he's always supported the family's Arabian Horse passion. To read Kathy's story see a gallery of Kathy and her past show horses press here.

They enjoyed the opportunity of learning from and riding 8-15 different horses a day! While in college 2006-2010, Jessica Gilker Ho and Megan Gilker Thomas competed on the Intercollegiate Horse Shows Association (IHSA) Berry College Equestrian Team for 4 years. Megan competed in Open Hunt Seat Equitation and then all the way up to the National level in Advanced Horsemanship. The Gilker family enjoys sharing their love for Arabians by educating others about the versatile, talented, and loving breed! The Gilkers felt honored to be able to help represent the Arabian Horse at the 2019 BreyerFest and at the 2021 Georgia Horse Fair where they were able to introduce the Arabian Horse to thousands of individuals. Through leasing opportunities we offered in the past & being borrowed for professionals in their lesson programs, Elated MSF, JAG Silhouette, F M Jaharah, JAG Cafe Au Lait+/, JAG Royal Knight, JAG Kalico Kid+//, JAG Lady Pegasus+/, Conkar+/, CA Destiny Gro+, JAG Crown Jewel, and JAG Mochaccino, have helped teach over a hundred riders the ropes of good horsemanship and gave many of them the opportunity to compete for their first time.

Please note this a private farm and we offer no public services. All of our horses are currently amateur owned and trained; however, we know the importance of continuing our education to become better partners and caretakers of our horses so we eagerly audit clinics, read and learn more as our free time allows. We can recommend wonderful trainers and instructors in the area who we have had the opportunity to with work previously. We are happy to have visitors and share our love and knowledge horses - they just need to make an appointment or send us an email with their questions. We are happy to offer free educational opportunities for local Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, & other non-profit organizations as our schedules allow. We have proudly volunteered to host two educational clinics (both sport horse clinics - one more dressage focused with Charlotte Osborne of Osborne International Dressage of Alpharetta, GA and the other more hunter/jumper focused with Devan Cottrell A/AA hunter/jumper/equitation trainer of Arrow Hill Farm, Nashville, TN) as a fundraiser for the Georgia Arabian Horse Association.

The Arabian Horse has helped so many individuals achieve their dreams and reach goals, including the Gilkers, which they are forever thankful for. Those that own an Arabian Horse will be grateful for their athleticism as well as their hard working and affectionate natures. One could not ask for better partners, family members and companions for the equestrian in the wonderful Arabian Horse - no matter what may be asked of them.
