On Friday September 23rd we lost one of the best horses from our family and breeding program: JAG Café Au Lait+/ His playful, sweet and attention loving personality will be missed. We always remember him as a cheerful and trouble making youngster. He LOVED to work and was a fun, wonderful horse to learn on and ride. Café started his career as a hunter pleasure horse and Megan always recalled how easy and enjoyable it was to win a class on him – even as a young and green horse in his first shows. Amber Clark assisted in training and showing this lovable guy up to second level and schooling third and upper level movements, including fly changes, passage and piaffe. Megan’s first second level tests were on Café in open USDF dressage shows and Arabian shows. The highlight of Café’s career was winning Half Arabian First Level 14-18 at the Arabian and Half Arabian 2006 Youth Nationals with a 71.1%. Megan recalls this test being so fun and easy! He also won Top Ten Training Level 14-18 and top ten in Hunt Seat Equitation 14-18 with a pattern that Café perfectly listened to Megan. She couldn't have asked for a better and more willing and reliable partner! Café was used by several riders through AMC Training program to learn dressage and show on. He also was a great beginner horse the Gilker’s could put first time riders on and go for a trail ride around the farm. Karen Boysen used him several times for lessons with intermediate beginner riders and up. Unfortunately Café had an underlying health issue called Insulin Resistance which lead to several founder episodes – several of which he came back sound enough to show. Despite medication, special feed and care, his last episode he did not recover from and it was devastating. It was in his best interest to be at peace and without pain. Cafe has one full brother, JAG Mochaccino (owned by Ryan Pfouts) and two half brothers, JAG Kalico Kid+/, owned by the Gilkers, and JAG Ecstatic owned by Susie McGaughey.
